Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook filed a lawsuit on Thursday accusing US President Donald Trump of illegal dismissal. With the market continuously focusing on the latest developments of the controversy, U.S. bourse advanced on Thursday. As NVIDIA (NVDA.US) narrowed its decline, the S&P 500 closed up 20 points or 0.3% at 6,501. The DJIA rose 71 points or 0.2% to 45,636. Both indexes touched record closing highs. The Nasdaq added 115 points or 0.5% to end at 21,705.
The market digested NVIDIA's latest revenue beat, with data center business revenue slightly missing. But several brokers, including JPMorgan and Citi, raised NVIDIA's target price, optimistic about the persistent AI investment boom. NVIDIA's stock dived more than 2% at its lowest, ending down 0.8%. Other chip stocks had a good run, with Broadcom (AVGO.US) soaring 2.8% and AMD (AMD.US) gaining 0.9%.
